It was our first time there. A wonderful spot right on the corner of 7th and Broadway. They have 2 tables in a little counter space. We ordered the chicken Sausage gumbo, regular gumbo a shrimp, a boy, and I ordered the half-and-half 6 shrimp, 6 catfish, fries, fries and hash puppies. They have can sodas and water no fountain drinks. The cashier's/waiters, they were nice and friendly. It's more like a takeout place because there's only 2 tables with chairs and then a bar like area with 3 barstools

I always wanted to try “GUMBO BOYS” & on 10/18/2024 just so happened to be the actual day I had my chance and to my surprise Their chicken and sausage gumbo was absolutely horrible! It had no gumbo “FILE” whatsoever, the rue was thick and all but there was no flavor any to be found! I also had their red beans and rice that was pretty bland however it was more tolerable than the “FUMBO” it was utterly disgusting!!!!!

As a first time customer, I knew this spot was fire when many customers made line to order. Small spot in DTLA, but enough outdoor seating to wait while the chefs are busy at their craft. The food was hot and great! I had so many sauces to choose from to dip my food. I definitely left the Huss puppies til the end. 10/10 service and worth the wait. Next time I'm ordering Gumbo!

The gumbo tasted as if gramma was back in the kitchen stirring a big pot and dishing out each serving of delicious gumbo. Beautiful golden brown roux, shrimp NOT shriveled and chewy. Chicken was a bit over cooked but tasty. Thank you for keeping the rice separate from the gumbo, too. I took my order to the car and ate as the pot smoke was a bit thick on the sidewalk. Tasty, quick, affordable, satisfying portions. Yum boys!

Asked for the sausage and shrimp Po boy. All around great sandwich! Sausage flavor was one of a kind, delicious. Pause.

Cornbread was wack mediocre at best.
Red beans and rice was ok. No complaints.

4 stars for atmosphere bc well it's DTLA. But it is what it is.

First of all you are immediately transported into the French Quarter when approach the counter. The welcoming Creole voice from behind the counter makes you forget that you are in Los Angeles. We took our food to go. My husband is at home throwing his hands up after the first spoonful. I ask, “ honey do you want any hot sauce or anything “ to which he replies “ No, it’s perfect, this is THA real deal” . Thanks to Gumbo Boys, my husband is a happy man. I ordered the shrimp and grits which I haven’t tasted yet but it smells divine!

Wow! Just Wow I had the fried catfish, shrimp and grits, chicken sausage gumbo, and read beans and rice egg roll. This was soooo good I was surprised for what they charge: they give you options and it’s amazing. I can’t complain about anything! Definitely a repeat customer I have to try everything.
