This place reminds me of everything we missed ❤️ in New York! Max and Louie isn't your ordinary gloomy Diner. This place is well-lit, clean, uplifting, and filled with new/returning satisfied customers. Our first experience was mediocre due to our waitress. Obviously, our first experience didn't ✋️ us from returning because the food quality and the establishment were terrific!

On our second visit, we had a better waiter, Will. ? He was professional, friendly, and attentive. He made our dining ? experience better. We spent less than 30 minutes overall, which was a bonus. There are plenty of food options on the menu to choose from. We always order our NY-style pizza to go towards the end of our meal. It's the best compared to local pizza ? here in TX. Lol! Highly recommend and worth the visit. Prices maybe a little high, but the portions are enormous and worth it.

My first (and most likely last) visit here a few days ago left me feeling disappointed. To begin with, when my mother and I arrived, we stood around for a few minutes before being greeted or led to our table. I chalked it up to them being busy at first, but when another couple walked in, the hostess immediately greeted them. I informed her that we had been waiting, and she asked if we were on the "list." I told her we weren't, but she still sat us. My mother ordered pork chops and eggs, while I ordered the smoked whitefish salad platter. The prices are relatively high, but I noticed that the portions were generous, so it made sense. Our waitress was pleasant enough, but it took us approximately 20-30 minutes to receive our food. When she brought it out, she noticed they had given me the wrong platter and returned it. It took them about another ten minutes to resolve the situation. The whitefish salad did not look appetizing; it resembled tuna fish. They gave me a generous portion of it, but only one bagel; it was clearly enough for at least two, so I suspect I would have to buy another if I wanted to. The whitefish salad's taste was bland, and its texture was similar to tuna fish. Definitely not what I expected, and not worth the $20. My mother also complained that her pork chop was unseasoned and tasted bland. It was not worth the hype, and I will not be returning.

Miss this place so badly... my husband and I would come every week at a point. I've tried all their varieties of pancakes, and I ended up sticking with their blueberry pancakes every week, I would always order two pancakes on the side with any meal, sometimes 2 eggs sunny-side up, and usually the meatball hero sub with no cheese and sweet potato fries. My husband was a rigatoni alla vodka kind of guy, with a cup of coffee and two creamers. Everything here is fantastic, from the cheesecake to the service to the atmosphere (but don't get the matzoh ball soup, it's quite disappointing haha!), and we haven't been able to find a place like it ever since we moved. Will definitely drive the 3 hours down there soon enough.

Been twice. Everything is delicious! If you love desserts, beware! You’re going to want to try it all! ? Went on a Sunday & was busy so sign up online early. Service was amazing! Next visit was on a Monday. A lot slower, but service was slow. Can’t win’em all! I will still be coming back. Super clean & cool vibes! It’s a winner! Oh & pics don’t do it justice. You can share the meals! Huge pancakes, waffles & french toast!!! Yum! ?

The only thing that is disappointing is we’ve lived here for years and had never dined here! I asked the waitress “cheeseburger or lasagna? She said the lasagna hands down … so I went with it. Wow just wow … layers of deliciousness! It’s so much I was able to take home half for the next day. The flavor, the presentation, aroma, and the freshness 5 stars. Our son had a sundae after his meal and his eyes light up when he saw the size of it. He was thinking a scoop of ice cream in a bowl … no sir not at Max and Louie’s! The diner is clean and everyone in there is super friendly. We’ll be back as I need to try that cheeseburger, the meatloaf, pizza, and so much more!

You’ll forget where you are in this place. It’s loud enough to believe you’ll walk right outside into New York, but the food is the most excellent. Pancakes have a crispness to them and even their scrambled eggs taste perfect. Watching sandwiches go by on trays to other tables, I dunno whether to feel impressed or overwhelmed. I asked if half-sandwiches were an option to an unfortunate answer. I would have meant half in width as well as height, but…taste is on point.

They were crazy busy, so I wouldn’t mark down my wait time, but it was quite a wait to sit down and to pay the bill. That’s how you know they’re good, though…people show up for this place.

As soon as I walked in you feel the big apple vibe. I went with a native New Yorker and he loves the food , his suggestion was Shakshukah
3 pouches eggs in a tomato sauce . I love eggs so this was a must for me. It came with a Greek salad which was very fresh. Jessica did a great job.

I’ve never been there before, but I will be back multiple times. The food portions were amazing and excellent. The service was second to none. You can tell immediately the vibe as soon as you walk in. Everybody is happy, chatting, and eating delicious food. Can’t wait to return to San Antonio.
