Pros: Inexpensive, safe neighborhood and nice park nearby.

Cons: Lots of cockroaches. No phone signal inside my unit. Delivery drivers have a difficult time finding units because this apartment complex is built like a maze, thus most of my packages never gets delivered.

I have lived at San Mateo off and on for 25 years now. I have been here constantly for 18 years now. I've lived in 4 different units over the years. This place is awesome! Little hidden gem in the middle of Lakewood. Hilda and Carolina are so helpful and they really take the time to listen to their residents. They actually care about their residents at San Mateo. It's in a very safe and quiet neighborhood. Lots of current residents have lived here for many years. Big floor plans at a great price. I highly recommend San Mateo. Thank You Hilda and Carolina for making San Mateo a great place to live!

If I could give these apartments 20 stars I would!!!!!...Miss Carolina was so nice and very detailed about what we needed to know..most places seem like they are not interested in you or could care less, but here, she made us feel welcomed and appreciated...it's been a beautiful experience to be here from the nice location, to the awesome parks and courteous neighbors....WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!....thank you Carolina and San Mateo!!!!!....

I lived in this complex for 2 years and my overall experience could be narrowed down to alright, a bit worse on my last month with the apartments.
Probably the only main concern would be their low security, the apartment complex is located on a nice and quiet location. But nearly at the end of my lease, my truck was stolen and other vehicles would get vandalized, such as my truck a year prior of being stolen. While management did the best they could to provide evidence of both events respectively. I can fault it to poor security, being that anyone can just come and go at whatever time they please.
They claim to have a security guard paroling around in the night to prevent events like these from occurring. Yet it kept happening on times where security should've been sharp. But at the end of the day, I understand that I should've taken more care of my property as well that security can only do so much. Therefore, I can't blame them either. Other than that, this place is neat, never had issues with pests nor the ac. Neighbors are usually "quiet" (the walls are really thin), but I never had a real noise complain about anyone. Only twice I had run ins against management, only to be proved as misunderstandings from their behalf.
I won't say they're a bad community, so if you can afford it, give it a go, but be careful with your vehicles.

I lived at San Mateo Forest for 6 years and it was a great experience. If I wasn't buying a house I would have no problems staying longer. The neighborhood is one of the best in all of Dallas. It's biking distance to White Rock Lake and a 5 minute drive to many really good restaurants. Lindsley park is walking distance, which is kid and dog friendly.

The apartment complex itself is quiet and all my neighbors were respectful. I never had a single incident where I was disturbed due to loud neighbors or anything else. Management was always quick to respond to all of my request. Especially, when it came to heat or a/c.

The apartments are older, but well maintained and recently updated. This means that you get a good amount of space for your money (I lived in two different apartments during my time there), especially compared to other complexes in the area. It doesn't have the "amenities" that other places offer, but those never justify the additional cost to me. The bottom line for me is that there isn't a better value in Dallas.
